There’s usually a day in September when you open the windows and realise the house is ready for a change. The heavy throw gets folded away, the afternoon light hangs around a little longer, and the candle you loved all winter suddenly has some competition.
If you’re choosing a spring candle, start with the scents you already enjoy. Fresh flowers on the table? Something citrusy? That salty, just-back-from-the-beach feeling? It’s much easier to find a fragrance you’ll love when you have a familiar starting point.
Our Spring Collection brings together floral, fruity and coastal soy candles. Here are four to help you find your way.
For a fresh, green floral: Garden Walks
Garden Walks combines lemon peel and fir needle with blackcurrant, clove, rose petal and musk. The green notes give the floral side a little edge, with some warmth underneath.
We’d point you towards this one if you love garden scents but don’t want anything too sweet. It has a moderate to strong fragrance, so it also suits those who like their candle to make its presence known.
For fruit with a softer finish: Kakadu Plum
Kakadu Plum starts with plum and orange, followed by mimosa and a base of sandalwood, musk and vanilla.
It’s a lovely place to start if you enjoy fruity fragrances with a bit of softness. The vanilla adds warmth, which makes this an easy step into spring if you’re still attached to your cosy winter favourites. Its subtle to moderate fragrance is also worth considering if you prefer something gentler.
For a little of the coast at home: Sea Breeze
Sea Breeze pairs fresh citrus with sage, sea salt and jasmine, over sandalwood, amber, musk and cedarwood.
This is the most subtle of these four candles. We’d suggest it if you want a fresh coastal fragrance that sits quietly in the background. Think of it for an easy afternoon at home, with a book you’ve been meaning to finish and no particular plans.
For those who love jasmine: Wild Jasmine
If the smell of jasmine makes you think of spring, Wild Jasmine is a good one to explore. Jasmine and orange zest sit alongside bitter orange, vanilla, honey and musk.
It has a sweeter floral character and a moderate to strong fragrance. Choose this one if you enjoy a more noticeable floral scent, with citrus to balance the sweetness.
A small change is enough
You don’t need to redo the house for a new season. Fresh sheets, a cleared coffee table or a few stems in a vase can be plenty. Changing your candle is another simple way to make a familiar room feel a little different.
And there’s no need to choose a floral just because it’s spring. If you love fruit, start there. If you prefer something subtle, look at the fragrance strength as well as the notes. The right candle is the one you’ll actually look forward to lighting.
